Jayalalithaa criticises Achuthanandan

Special Correspondent

For disclosing decision of all-party meeting to reporters

Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Thursday criticised Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, for disclosing to reporters the decision of the all-party meeting to not raise the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam to 142 feet.

In a statement here, she said Mr. Achuthanandan should have revealed Kerala's stand only at the tripartite meeting slated for November 29 in New Delhi. "Can he violate the decision of the all-party meeting held in Kerala? Will he take a stand at the proposed Delhi meeting contradicting this decision?"

Ms. Jayalalithaa criticised the removal of the water-measuring gauge, allegedly by the Sub-Collector of Devikulam, and persons representing various organisations in Kerala frequenting the dam site which is under the control of the Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu.

She criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government for not taking any action against such incidents.

Though the Tamil Nadu Government had been providing salary and allowances to five Kerala policemen posted at the dam site, the Achuthanandan Government had recently raised the number of security personnel to 31, she said, dubbing the move "arbitrary and authoritarian."
