"Deploy Central forces at dam"

CHENNAI: The State Government has requested the Central Government to deploy Central security personnel in place of Kerala police personnel in the Mullaperiyar Dam area.

A press release from Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan said this would ensure safety of officers appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government in the area.

A Tamil Nadu PWD engineer at the dam site had earlier been threatened by the Idukki District Collector and a police officer, the press release added.
