Abstain from dam talks: Ramadoss

Tamil Nadu should seek legal remedy by basing argument on February 27court directive

  • PMK founder slams Achuthanandan's stand on issue
  • Nationalising rivers could be solution to problem

VILLUPURAM: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi not to participate in the Mullaperiyar dam talks scheduled for November 27, in the wake of his Kerala counterpart V.S. Achuthanandan adopting a confrontationist stand on raising the water level.

Instead, the Tamil Nadu Government should seek legal remedy by firmly basing its argument on the Supreme Court directive issued on February 27, which had said that the water level could be raised from 136 ft to 142 ft.

Addressinga press conference at Thailapuram on Thursday, Dr. Ramadoss criticised a Kerala Inspector General of Police who had accompanied naval personnel in their bid inspect the dam without the knowledge of Tamil Nadu. While Mr. Karunanidhi was approaching the issue with an open mind, Mr. Achuthanandan was determined not to provide even 1 tmcft of water (additional quantum that would accrue to Tamil Nadu by raising the level).
