PATHANAMTHITTA: District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh convened a meeting of officials attached to various departments and the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in Pampa on Wednesday to review the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the ongoing annual Sabarimala pilgrimage.

The Revenue Department installed its wireless communication system at the office of the Duty Magistrate in Pampa, Mr. Singh said.

He said that the wireless system has been linked to the control room at the Pathanamthitta Collectorate, Nilackal and the five taluk headquarters in the district. Mr. Singh directed the officials attached to the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and the TDB to take effective steps to prevent the chances of contamination of water collected in the tanks at Pandithavalom Saramkuthi, Malikappuram, Pampa and Nilackal.

He said the TDB and the SPCB should immediately identify a place to dump the waste collected by the Sabarimala Sanitation Society workers near the sewage treatment plant at Cheriyanavattom.

The Collector said the Kerala State Electricity Board would install 30 halogen lamps at Nilackal, 10 in Sannidhanam and 20 in Pampa soon.
