NEW DELHI: Parliament was adjourned for the day on Thursday after the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena stalled the proceedings in both Houses, demanding the execution of death penalty to Mohammed Afzal, sentenced in the Parliament attack case. Raising slogans, the BJP and Shiv Sena members blocked the aisles in the Lok Sabha, and in the Rajya Sabha members of the two parties trooped into the well of the House. The Lok Sabha also witnessed noisy scenes over other issues. The Samajwadi Party members entered the well of the House, seeking the release of the detained party men in Mumbai and raising slogans against the Maharashtra Government. The Telugu Desam Party members stood up with placards seeking relief for beedi workers. In the post-lunch session, Tamil Nadu MPs took up Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's letter to the Centre objecting to Kerala's moves on the Mullaperiyar dam. The BJP and Shiv Sena members rose as the Lok Sabha assembled for Question Hour. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's assurance that he would give an opportunity to them to raise issues could not restore order, forcing adjournment twice and for the day in the post-lunch session. In the post-lunch session D.P. Yadav, in the Chair, announced that the Speaker had accepted the resignation of TRS leader K. Chandrasekhara Rao with effect from September 23.
