Gram panchayat gets 724 toilets

SULLIA: A total of 724 toilets have been constructed in Balila Gram Panchayat limits in the taluk. These include 371 toilets constructed for families below the poverty line and 353 toilets for families above the poverty line, Dayananda Panjigaru, panchayat president, said.

Steps have been taken to construct toilets in two anganwadis, four schools and two community toilets in the panchayat limits, he said. Presiding over a seminar on "village sanitation and importance of construction of toilets" at Balila near here, Mr. Dayananda said this achievement was significant given that every household and other buildings under the gram panchayat would now have a toilet . Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has recommended the name of the panchayat for centrally sponsored Nirmal Gram Puraskar, he added.
