Kerala urged to honour verdict

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI), has urged the Kerala Government to honour the Supreme Court verdict in raising the water level of the Mullaperiyar Dam up to 142 feet.

The "rigid" stand taken by the Kerala Government against the verdict would strain the cordial relationship between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, a resolution adopted at an executive meeting of the sangam held here on Wednesday said.

Describing Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's announcement on the relief as a great consolation for the flood-hit farmers, the resolution said the official machinery should immediately gear up and commence the work on damage assessment. Another resolution urged the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to procure paddy irrespective of humidity percentage and discolouration. It said paddy driers should be installed in all taluks.
