NEW DELHI: Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu on Thursday objected to the reported move of the Kerala Government asking Naval officers to check the Mullaperiyar dam under the supervision of the State Inspector-General , and waved copies of the letter by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and others, in Parliament. The MPs, including C. Kuppusami, A. Krishnaswamy, A.K.S. Vijayan, V. Radhika Selvi, D. Venugopal, (all DMK), S.K. Kaarvendhan , K.V. Thangka Balu (both Congress) R. Senthil (PMK) and P. Mohan (CPI-M) were seen rushing to the well of the House. Not much could be heard what these agitated members said amid the din in the House, minutes before it was adjourned for the day. Later, Mr. Kuppusami and Mr. Thangkabalu told correspondents outside the House that Mr. Karunanidhi had in his letter protested the "unlawful activities" of the Kerala Government and asked the Centre to step in to stop it. "It is astonishing to note that in a dam owned and maintained by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Government of Kerala has taken a unilateral action to interfere deliberately with the safety of the dam without taking any permission from the Government of Tamil Nadu,'' the MPs said, quoting Mr. Karunanidhi's letter. They said the action by the Kerala was not good especially since the Chief Ministers of both States were scheduled to attend a meeting called by Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz here next week.
