LUCKNOW:
Jan Morcha Alliance president Raj Babbar has accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav of misleading
Taking exception to the Chief Minister's proposal for including the Dalit Muslims in the Scheduled Castes category, Mr. Babbar said if Mr. Yadav was indeed committed to the minority community's uplift he should implement the 8.4 per cent quota for Muslims in accordance with the Mandal Commission's recommendations.
Describing the Chief Minister's move as a pre-election stunt, the Jan Morcha leader said such steps led to division of society on caste and religious lines.
Mr. Babbar told newspersons that Mr. Yadav claimed to be the self-styled champion of the Muslims yet his government was yet to submit a fresh affidavit in the Babri Masjid demolition case. He accused the Chief Minister of creating a BJP phobia among the Muslims and blamed him for helping the BJP on the sly.
He also attacked the Bahujan Samaj Party for getting its votes transferred to the BJP in the recent mayoral elections.
The Jan Morcha president said he had met the Governor, T. V. Rajeswar, and apprised him of the need for impartial Vidhan Sabha elections.
"The elections should not be held under the present regime," he added.
