New systems of medicine to be recognised
NEW DELHI
: In a bid to widen the field of medicare, the government on Thursday night decided to bring in legislation to recognise new systems of medicine besides allopathy, ayurvedic, siddha, unani, homeopathy, yoga and naturopathy.
A proposal of the Health Ministry to bring a new bill has been approved by the Union Cabinet at its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters.
Since the bill will seek to penalise those practising any other form of medicare in an unauthorised manner, the legislation is expected to discourage quacks in the country. PTI
