Bangalore: "Overpopulation has always been considered a disadvantage for India. It is time we changed these perceptions. Overpopulation can be one of our assets. We have to train the illiterate. This is the opportunity for India," observed Ajay Bhardwaj, founder, Anthem Biosciences, at the IIT Bangalore Alumni Meet 2006 held here recently. The IIT had organised a panel discussion at the Royal Orchid Park Plaza here as part of the alumni meet. The speakers at the event were C. Mohan, scientist, IBM; Ajay Bhardwaj, founder, Anthem Biosciences; Bobby Mitra, managing director, Texas Instruments; Rajagopal Tampi, vice- president, Solution Sales; and Pawan Kumar, founder, Moksha Group. "We can transform and build our nation, by connecting people who are disconnected from everything related to technology. This is where advanced technology comes in. We have to come together and act," said Mr. Mitra. The IIT will organise the IIT Alumni 2006 global conference `Nation building', from December 23 to 25 in Mumbai. The event aims at involving and inspiring IITians to support and start new initiatives on transforming India.
Global conference
Speaking about the global conference, Mr. Tampi said the three-day event in Mumbai would be inaugurated by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. A series of sessions with eminent leaders from across the country would be held. The event based on the theme "Inspire IITians to involve and transform India", would see the participation of Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Commerce; Nandan Nilekani, CEO, Infosys; Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder, Art of Living; and Sam Pitroda, chairman, Knowledge Commission.
