Obscene posters: court intervention sought

Films `Vallabha,' `Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw' under fire

  • Anti Obscenity Forum seeks courts' intervention
  • Calls for setting up of screening committee

HYDERABAD: Tantalising film posters and advertisement hoardings bordering on obscenity and dotting the city skyline seem to be driving people to the wall.

The city-based Anti Obscenity Forum has filed a PILseeking the intervention of courts in setting up a screening committee to check obscenity in posters before they are splashed all over.

Huge hoardings, especially those along the flyovers, of the lip-locked lead pair became a `hot' topic and reportedly claimed the life of a young motorist who suffered a crash, thanks to a `momentary lapse of concentration'.The forum, which has lodged complaints against four theatres wanted the city police to take up such cases suo motu without waiting for people to complain.

    Police complaints

Following the complaints, cases were registered against Sandhya theatre (Chikkadpally police station limits), Lakshmikala theatre (Sanathnagar PS limits), Sensation (Saifabad PS limits), Amba (Asifnagar PS limits). Another case was also registered in the Ramgopalpet police station in this connection, explained forum State general secretary E. Gopichand.

The forum has also lodged a complaint with the Gopalpuram police station about obscene posters pertaining to the Rajendra Prasad-starrer, `Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw' released last week. "We have to wipe out all kinds of obscene publicity material," forum's legal cell chairman C.V.L. Narasimha Rao and city secretary Ravikiran said.
