Man ends life after testing HIV positive

BANGALORE: A 40-year-old man committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar on Wednesday after learning that he was HIV positive.

The police gave his name as Sreenivasa, an agriculturist from Arsikere in Hassan district. Sreenivasa, father of two, was admitted to the hospital on November 18. Subsequently, he tested positive for HIV.

Late on Wednesday night, he had jumped from the third floor of the hospital's new block, the police said. The Bowring Hospital Police have registered a case.

Immolation

Following a quarrel with her husband, a woman immolated herself at her house in K.P. Agrahara Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The police said that around 11 p.m., Yashoda (35) had doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire. Her neighbours put out the fire and rushed her to a hospital. She died there in the early hours of Thursday.

After Yashoda was admitted to the hospital, her husband Chamaraj, a dhobi, attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. The Railway Police, who noticed Chamaraj sitting on the tracks, removed him, the police said. The K.P. Agrahara Police have registered a case.

In another incident, Shivanna (40) committed suicide by hanging himself at a shed in Peenya Police Station limits on Wednesday night.

Shivanna, a labourer, was a native of Kanakapura in Bangalore Rural district. He was living in a shed in Ravindranagar, the police said. The Peenya Police have registered a case.
