KOCHI: The Special Investigation Team, looking into the case registered on murder of Devaki, 51, and attack on her husband Ramakrishnan, 60, at Puthenvelikkara and robbery of ornaments, arrested one person on Thursday. The suspect has been identified as Jayanandan, known as Jayan, 39, belonging to Chenthuruthy, Mala. On interrogation, he confessed to committing seven murders and many burglaries, including twin-murders at Mala and Perinjanam. The suspect had attacked the victims on October 3. Ramakrishnan is yet to fully recover from the head injury he suffered then. He complains of memory loss. By the time, the victims were recovered a couple of days later, the dead body had started decomposing. A case was registered at Puthenvelikkara police station and M. Wahab, Superintendent of Police (Ernakulam Rural) formed a special team led by K.M. Antony, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Aluva Rural (Administration). Local people had protested against the delay in cracking the case and formed an action council. The clue towards the suspect was obtained when the investigating team started probing unsolved cases involving similar modus operandi. North Paravoor Circle Inspector R.K. Krishnakumar arrested the suspect on Thursday. Arun Kumar Sinha, Inspector General of Police, South Zone; Ravada Chandrasekhar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range; M. Wahab, SP, Ernakulam Rural; and K.M. Antony, DySP, Aluva Rural, briefed the media.
