Demonstration

MADURAI: Members of Employees' Provident Fund Staff Union staged a demonstration in front of the regional office on Thursday in support of their demands. The employees have been demanding pay-scales on a par with organised accounts departments of the Central Government, as accepted by the Central Board of Trustees, sanction of additional staff posts to cope with additional workload and provision of relief to employees who received less than Rs. 300 as pay on January 1, 1986. S. Cyril Rajarethinam, vice-president, led the demonstration.

Power shutdown

There will be a power shutdown between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday in the following areas: K.K. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Tahsildar Nagar, Sadasiva Nagar, Melamadai, Vandiyur, Gomathipuram, Sathamangalam, Mattuthavani, Ulaganeri, Shankar Nagar, ITI, Karpaga Nagar, K. Pudur, Lourdes Nagar, Alagar Nagar, Surveyor Colony, Surya Nagar, Moondrumavadi, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Parasurampatti, Gandhipuram, Aavin Nagar, Burma Colony, Pandi Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Ramavarma Nagar, Ramalakshmi Nagar and Industrial Estate.

Uranganpatti, Industrial Estate, Sakkudi, Senkottai, Thatchanendal, Vilathoor, Odaipatti, Rajakkoor, Ilamanur, Sakkimangalam, Karseri, Karuppayoorani, Masthanpatti, Kalikappan and parts of Othakadai.
