KOCHI: To face stiff competition in the retail sector in the State, the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd (Supplyco) will open three modern, high-tech shops at Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran announced this at the inaugural function of the Sabari Medical Store attached to the Sabari Supermarket here on Friday. The showrooms would have most of the items that are found in supermarkets abroad, the Minister added. He said the Maveli stores, started by Supplyco, have become a part of people's life. Corporation councillor T.J. Padmanabhan presided over the function. Councillor V.J. Thankaraj, Supplyco General Manager Sanjay M. Kaul, Elders' Forum president Appukuttan Pillai and Supplyco Regional Manager K.G. Muralidharan spoke on the occasion.
Painting contest
Given the overwhelming response to the children's painting contest conducted by Supplyco, the organisation would continue to have the programme every year, Mr. Diwakaran said. Speaking during the function held to distribute prizes to winners of the all-Kerala painting contest held earlier, the Minister said various organisations should come forward to buy the paintings.
