GENERATION NEXT: Wilfried Aulbur (right), Managing Director and CEO, DaimlerChrysler India, with Ravi Talwar, Chairman, T&T Motors, launching the new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class in Gurgaon near Delhi on Friday.
NEW DELHI: DaimlerChrysler on Friday revealed its plan to set up a second plant in Pune. The company is hopeful that the market for high-end products will grow and the new products that the company will launch will be well received. "We have plans to set up a new plant in and around Pune, as we have a good supplier network in the area,'' DaimlerChrysler India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur told media persons at the launch of the new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the special edition Mercedes-Benz E 350. "We plan to manufacture products from our existing offerings in India in the proposed new plant. Also, it will give us scope for expansion in the future,'' Mr. Aulbur said. Refusing to divulge details on the proposed investment, he said the location for the new facility would be finalised `very soon.' Mr. Aulbur said sales in India were expected to be around 2,000 units in 2006. "By October end, we have sold 1,715 units and hope that the overall sales growth is healthy for the full year in line with our segment,'' he said. On the commercial vehicles side, he said the company had already sold around 50 units of off-highway tippers, mainly used for mining. On the launch of commercial vehicles like buses and trucks, the Managing Director said, "We are looking at various options.''
