Chennai: Sailor Ajay Rau will be participating in the international sailing circuit in Australia and New Zealand, from December 2006 to February 2007. Mittal Champions Trust is sponsoring the tour. The National youth champion (Laser) will compete in nine events, with five of them in Grade 1 (Sydney International Regatta, Australian Laser National championship, Sail Melbourne, Auckland Laser championship and Sail Auckland). The Sail Melbourne, which is the Grand Slam of the Asia Pacific series, will be the inaugural event of the World Championship Series. "This will be my first tour of the men's circuit and it will be a completely different ball game. It is tougher, more competitive and would require the highest level of training and physical fitness," said the 18-year-old at a press conference here. Ajay was recently conferred the Rajyotsav award by the Government of Karnataka for the `best sportsman of the year 2005.' He, however, lost out to Amit Arvind for an Asian Games berth.
