Amarinder advises Badal to retire from politics

Staff Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Winding up the second phase of his "Punjab Vikas Yatra" when the State Government claimed "an exemplary response" in the Majha region, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh advised Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal to retire from politics as his "cynical nature and orthodox outlook" could be of no utility to the State as it took major development strides into the 21st century.

Addressing reporters on the outskirts of Kathunangal on his way to the foundry town of Batala in Gurdaspur distict, Capt. Singh said that he would send this suggestion through a rally to be organised in Badal village as a "birthday gift from the Congress" to the veteran Akali leader on December 8 this year.

Capt. Singh scoffed at a statement where Mr. Badal had accused the "Maharaja" Capt. Singh of not coming out of his palace frequently enough to meet common people. He reminded the Akali leader that he had been elected as an MLA and MP for a number of terms before ascending the position of Chief

Minister during his political career spanning over 37 years, which was not possible without freely interacting with the people.
