"Drop satellite township plan"

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: Secretary of the Puducherry State unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam A. Anbalagan has appealed to the Government to drop the satellite township plan in the name of Special Development Zone here.

Addressing reporters on Friday, Mr. Anbalagan said as much as 335 hectares of fertile land would be taken over for infrastructural development and bus sheds.

He said although the Lt. Governor and the Chief Minister had made it clear that though the plan was on hold, there was a constant fear among farmers that they would be deprived of their sources of livelihood. Rural poverty would be major fallout of the acquisition of the lands for the scheme, Mr. Anbalagan said.

He said a farmer from Nainarmandapamhad recently obtained details of the proposal of the satellite town plan from the Public Works Department using the the Right to Information Act.
