Doctors' concern over attacks on clinics

Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: "Patients and their relatives expect 100 per cent results from doctors and they indulge in violence if something goes wrong during treatment," outgoing president of the India Medical Association N. Gopal Reddy said on Friday.

Expressing serious concern over the `strained relations' between doctor and patient, he said, "This issue has to be tackled very urgently."

He was speaking at the installation of new office-bearers of Neelagir branch.

President-elect A. V. Sreenivasa Rao fervently appealed to the police "to control the unsocial elements who manhandle doctors and attack clinics." In a bid to allay fears among doctors, SP Vijay Kumar, chief guest, said: "I promise you I won't arrest a doctor under 304 (A)." He asked practising doctors to immediately alert the police in case they sensed trouble.
