Delhi award for Kendriya Bhandar

NEW DELHI: Kendriya Bhandar, the country's largest consumer cooperative society, has been conferred the Best Consumer Cooperative Society 2006 Award by the Delhi Government.

The award, presented by Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, was jointly received by Kendriya Bhandar Chairman S.P. Tyagi and Managing Director Jagdeesh Bhatia at a ceremony here organised by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the Delhi State Cooperative Union Ltd.

Houses for the poor

NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) should be entrusted the task of building houses for the weaker sections of society in the Capital, State Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal has said.

Speaking at a function, the Minister lauded DSIIDC's track record in construction and said it should be given the work of laying houses for weaker sections and also maintenance of all industrial estates. "The houses built by DSIIDC in Bawana are of good quality and priced very cheap because of the low-cost technology used," he added.

Small enterprises

NEW DELHI: Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Rajender Nath on Friday said small enterprises had played a significant role in accelerating the growth of the Indian economy.

Mr. Nath was speaking at a seminar on "Importance of Micro and Small Industries in the Indian Economy" organised by the Chamber in coordination with the Trade Fair Authority of Haryana at the India International Trade Fair here. He said the small-scale sector had been contributing a lot to the country's economy but it had not received due importance.

Dividend paid

NEW DELHI: The Airports Authority of India has paid Rs.103.52 crores to the Government as dividend for 2005-06. The cheque was handed over by AAI Chairman K. Ramalingam to Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel here on Friday. This is the highest dividend paid so far by AAI. Last year, it paid a dividend of Rs.83.32 crores.

Lord Ayyappa Pooja

NEW DELHI: North-West Delhi Cultural Association, Rohini, will celebrate Ayyappa Pooja-2006 at Sri Jai Durga Mandir Bhawan here on Saturday and Sunday. Besides a Carnatic music concert by "Issai Mazhalai" Master Erode Anantharaman and party on Saturday, Maha Ganapathy Homam and Ayyappa Bhajan will be performed on Sunday.
