CHENNAI: Medical science has taken a leaf out of modern communication methodology to create awareness of a killer disease.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), its clinical features, complications, and link to smoking and air pollution have been elaborately profiled in a DVD brought out by the Respiratory Research Foundation of India.

A host of well-known individuals join respiratory physicians in holding forth on the ills of smoking on `Smoking Kills', which was released on World COPD Day on Wednesday.

Opinion leaders on the programme include K. Balachander, film director; Sivakumar and Rohini, actors; Cho Ramaswamy, Editor of Tuglak; Nataraj, Additional Director of Human Rights; and Bosskey, satirist.

The DVD was conceptualised by R. Narasimhan, Chairman of the foundation and respiratory physician at Apollo Hospitals, with the support of The Rotary Club of Madras North West.

Ganapathy, former District Governor, Rotary District 3230, and Cho Ramaswamy participated in the formal release of the DVD.

The foundation plans to distribute copies of the DVD to all schools.
