Neighbours rescue abducted girls

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Two sisters — Kumari (13) and Swarnalata (9) — who were allegedly abducted by a couple from Gudur in Nellore a week ago and brought to the city for flesh trade, were rescued by alert locals at Eega basti in Raidurg on Friday.

The girls told the Raidurg police that a couple -- Ravi Kumar and Vijaya -- befriended them while they were returning home from school in Gudur.

The girls' father died a few years ago. "As their mother was struggling to bring them up, the girls readily agreed when the couple offered them jobs in the city," Raidurg Inspector R. Sudarshan said.

Kumar and Vijaya took the girls to a hotel, offered them food laced with sedatives and brought them to Secunderabad railway station. Kumar sent the elder girl with two men to an isolated place where the latter tried to molest her, the police said.

The couple later took the girls to Eega basti and took a portion on rent three days ago.

When neighbours inquired, Kumar told them that they were his sisters. "Probably fearing backlash from residents, the couple disappeared leaving the girls at the home," the Inspector said.

The police are looking out for the accused couple. Information has been sent to the Gudur police to trace the girls' mother. The girls are in a rescue home at Hydershahkot.
