NEW DELHI: The ongoing sealing drive in the Capital targeted at commercial premises in residential areas remained a low-key affair on Friday as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi squad sealed just 16 properties on Najafgarh-Nangloi Road in Outer Delhi. The civic body squad accompanied by police and paramilitary personnel targeted shops in "Lal Dora" land besides sealing hazardous and polluting businesses in the area. During the past three days the MCD had sealed around 400 commercial premises in residential areas along Najafgarh-Nangloi Road. Since the drive began on November 8, the MCD has targeted 1,598 units across the city. The sealing drive has lost momentum as a majority of shop owners operating from residential areas have been granted relief by the Delhi Government's notification allowing commercial activities on 2,183 roads. On Thursday, the Supreme Court also gave relief to a majority of shopkeepers who had filed affidavits. Soon the MCD is also likely to start de-sealing shops on the 2,183 roads whose owners had filed affidavits and undertakings with the civic body to stop misuse of their residential premises.
