New Delhi: The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present the prestigious Law Day awards of the Indian Council of Jurists here on Saturday to eminent personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions in the field of law. A high power committee that included the former Chief Justice of India (CJI) P.N. Bhagwati, Convener Adish C. Aggarwala and the Organising Secretary, S. Prabhakaran selected the following persons for receiving the awards. Union Law Minister, H.R. Bhardwaj (for carrying out legislative and judicial reforms); former CJI R.C. Lahoti (for litigant-friendly administration of justice); Attorney General, Milon K. Banerjee (for evolution of jurisprudence); Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh S.M.A. Kazmi (constitutional law); M.R. Prasanna (company law); A. Thiyagarajan (taxation laws); Amarjit Singh Chandhiok (civil law); Satish Agarwala (narcotics and revenue laws) and woman lawyer Nipun Gupta.
Seminar
Besides giving the awards, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a national seminar on `Law, Terrorism and Development' in which eminent jurists, Supreme Court and High Court Judges and others are expected to participate.
