`Auto thieves' held

NEW DELHI: Five alleged auto-lifters have been arrested at Janakpuri by the Special Staff of the West Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered 23 stolen vehicles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Robin Hibu said the Special Staff received a tip-off that one Virender Singh and his accomplices would pass by Janakpuri on Wednesday. The police laid a trap and intercepted them. Virender and his accomplices, Vipin Rathore, Ganpat, Sanjeev Dahiya and Maninderjeet Singh were arrested after they purportedly disclosed that the carrier had been stolen about two months ago from Alipur in North-West Delhi. They allegedly disclosed that the two-wheelers loaded on the carrier had also been stolen and were to be handed over to one Gulab Singh at Panchkula.

Commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide in his Sangam Vihar home here on Friday. Anoop is reported to have hung himself from a ceiling fan with a rope. No suicide note has been found and the police are trying to ascertain why he decided to take such a drastic step.

In a separate incident in Pakistan Mohalla near Bhatti Mines, a 45-year-woman allegedly tried to take her life by setting herself afire.

`Gangster' dead

NEW DELHI: Pradeep alias Bawla, who was injured in an exchange of fire with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Thursday night, succumbed to his injuries early on Friday. According to the police, the exchange of fire took place at Kargil Chowk in Dwarka and lasted around 20 minutes. Pradeep was subsequently rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police claim to have recovered a semi-automatic pistol from him. The Haryana police had declared a reward of Rs. 50,000 on him.

Victim identified

NEW DELHI: The young man who was charred to death in his vehicle after a mini-truck rammed into it on the Delhi-Noida DND flyover on Thursday night worked as a driver with a cab service.

The deceased, Jitendra, was a resident of Kusumpur Pahari in Vasant Vihar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla on Friday clarified that it was a Maruti Esteem belonging to one Mahipal. The Tata-407 driver, arrested soon after the accident, has been identified as Veer Bahadur.

Cyclist killed by truck

NEW DELHI: In a tragic accident, an 18-year-old boy was killed when his bicycle was hit by a truck bearing a Haryana number plate on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road on Friday. The truck has been impounded, but the driver is absconding.

Concert postponed

NEW DELHI: The concert of sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at Nehru Park here on Saturday as part of the ongoing "Music in the Park" series has been postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances, a New Delhi Municipal Council release said.

The concert will now be held on December 3.
