Karnataka triumphs

BANGALORE: Karnataka claimed the Shafi Quereshi Cup, the symbol of supremacy in the girls team event in the junior National and inter-State badminton championship at Panchkula (Haryana) on Saturday.

In the final, Karnataka defeated Maharashtra 2-1. Karnataka last won the title in 1996.

The results: Karnataka bt Maharashtra 2-1 (G.M. Nischitha lost to Arundhati 17-21, 16-21, Ashwini Ponnappa & Nitya Sosla bt Pragna & Shwetha 21-15, 21-14; Ruth Misha bt Juhi Agaskar 21-12, 21-12).
