`Pay more to U.P. cane farmers'

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Janata Dal (United) has demanded higher rates to sugarcane farmers of Uttar Pradesh. JD (U) president and former Union Minister Sharad Yadav has pointed out that some years ago when sugar was selling at Rs. 1,100 per quintal, farmers were paid Rs. 105 per quintal of cane.

Mr. Yadav has asked the U.P. government to increase the rate for this year to Rs. 210 per quintal.
