BHUBANESWAR: As part of making telecom consumers aware of their rights, Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) is holding a seminar here on Sunday to deliberate on the mechanism to resolve disputes in the backdrop of the rapid surge in broadcasting and telecommunication. The seminar on the theme `Dispute Settlement and Protection of Consumer Rights in the Telecom and Broadcasting Sector' will be TDAST's 12th such awareness programme in the country. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, TDSAT Chairperson Justice Arun Kumar said, ``the tribunal has been increasingly getting cases pertaining to disputes in telecom sector. TDSAT is the only forum to which both consumers as well as service providers can approach for settlement of disputes.'' Pointing out that the Tribunal's verdict was not final, Justice Kumar said, `TDSAT's judgment can be challenged in Supreme Court, but only on legal aspects of the disputes. The tribunal's factual examination is final.'' Member of the TDSAT Lt General (Retd) D P Sehgal said the tribunal was not overburdened with cases. ``We are disposing cases at faster rate. The usual case disposal time is 90 days. But in most of the cases, the tribunal manages to pass its orders before the target time.''
