Sanitation awareness campaign begins

PATHANAMTHITTA: A sanitation awareness campaign, jointly sponsored by the State Information and Public Relations Department (I&PRD) and the Kerala Cartoon Akademi began on Saturday in Pathanamthitta.

K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA, inaugurated the campaign at a meeting presided by Municipal Chairperson Amruthom Gokulan at the Town Hall here. There was a cartoon exhibition on chikungunya as part of the campaign. Noted cartoonist Shaji Mathew inaugurated the exhibition. An `Ottamthullal,' depicting the effects of chikungunya and its prevention, by Mannancheri Dasan was another attraction of the campaign.

District Information Officer Saktikumara Varma, Deputy District Medical Officer Dr. Purushothama Bhatt, Assistant Information Officer K.G. Santhosh and cartoonist and editor of Chiricheppu S. Jitesh addressed the gathering.

The Information and Public Relations Department also brought out a cartoon booklet, `Vaakkum Varayum' as part of the awareness programme.
