Forces troop in for bypoll

KARIMNAGAR: The Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs have decided to deploy 35 companies of para-military forces for the byelections to Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency in the district.

Ten companies of Central para-military forces have arrived in Karimnagar.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Saturday, Election Commission Deputy Commissioner R. Balakrishnan said that the remaining 25 companies would arrive very soon. Besides, State forces would also be deployed for the smooth conduct of elections, he said.

He said that VIPs and political leaders with police security should not stay in the district after campaigning ends on December 2. On the sports kits distribution scandal, he said that the State CEO had submitted a report to EC based on the report given by the District Election Officer. "We are watching the developments very closely," he said. He also said that the police officers transferred for dereliction of duties in the case would be replaced soon.

Mr. Balakrishnan suggested that authorities videograph the proceedings to check code violations.

The EC deputy commissioner held a meeting with AROs to check deployment of polling personnel, enforcement of code of conduct etc.
