Tata Motors expects land in a few weeks
Kolkata:
Tata Motors on Saturday asserted it would roll out its Rs. one lakh small car in 2008 from Singur where land was expected to be handed over to the company in a few weeks time.
"We are satisfied with the progress and we have been informed that 927 acres of the 997 acre land required for the project has already been acquired. This is extremely encouraging," Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant told reporters here.
Referring to the `dream car', he said a few cars were under test at the Pune manufacturing plant. "West Bengal should be proud of the project as it will revolutionise the automobile industry in the country," he said.
On the Trinamool Congress threat that there would be a bloodshed if the land was `forcibly' taken from farmers, Mr. Kant refused comment, but said that in a democracy people had a right to express their opinion. PTI
