Foundation stone for mini flyovers in December

GEARED UP: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin at the wheel of an excavator, marking the resuming of work on the Perambur flyover on Saturday.

Chennai: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stone for four mini flyovers in Chennai in December, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin said here on Saturday.

The flyovers will come up at the junctions of Turn Bulls road - Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar road, Usman Road - Kodambakkam High Road, G.N.Chetty road - Thirumalai road and Usman road - Duraisamy road.

At a ceremony to mark the revival of work on the Perambur flyover, Mr. Stalin said the mini-flyovers would ease congestion at the busy junctions. The project estimate of Rs. 58.52 crore awaited government approval.

Gammon India bid for the project at Rs. 40.8 crore.

The flyovers will come up at the junctions of Turn Bulls road — Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar road, Usman Road — Kodambakkam High Road, G.N.Chetty road — Thirumalai road and Usman road — Duraisamy road.

The construction cost of the Perambur flyover escalated to Rs. 45.67 crore from the earlier sum of Rs. 34.84 crore for which Mr. Stalin blamed the AIADMK government.

Project to be over

in eight months

The Local Administration Minister said the flyover (length: 991 metre, breadth: 16, 13 and 5.5 metres) would be completed in eight months.

Union Information Minister Dayanidhi Maran, City Mayor M. Subramanian and Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni were present.
