HYDERABAD: The first annual conference of the Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy (IACP) began here on Saturday, bringing together families of people with cerebral palsy and over 250 medical practitioners dealing with the condition, which is an umbrella term used for a number of non-progressive neurological physical disabilities. The two-day conference, which has two pre- and post-conference workshops on various subjects related to cerebral palsy, was formally inaugurated by City Police Commissioner A.K. Mohanty. The event, according to IACP general secretary A.K. Purohit, aims at bringing together all the specialists involved in the care of children and adults with cerebral palsy on a single platform along with parent support groups, rehabilitation specialists and others. A Family Forum and an academic tour to various rehabilitation institutes in the twin cities would also be a feature of the conference. IACP, he said, during the conference, would also look at ways to learn the importance of multi-disciplinary management need in cerebral palsy Those interested in knowing more about IACP, the conference and cerebral palsy can contact Dr. Purohit over telephone number 23318204.
