BANTWAL: D.V. Sadandanda Gowda, MP, has said that passenger train services between Mangalore and Hassan would start by the end December or early in January 2007. Noting that the officials from South Western Railway had inspected the ongoing work of relaying specialised sleepers along certain stretches of this route recently, he said a safety report was now awaited from Railway Safety Commissioner. Mr. Gowda told presspersons here on Saturday that he had discussed the issue of starting passenger train services on the Hassan-Mangalore route with Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu in New Delhi on Friday. Stating that he had been following up on the issue for the past two years, Mr. Gowda said he would strive to obtain assurance about the issue on the floor of Parliament. He said the Centre had released Rs. 9 crore to the State to undertake repair work between Bantwal and Mangalore.
