BANGALORE: The Bangalore South Taluk Panchayat, which is expected to lose large chunks of its area after the formation of the proposed Greater Bangalore, on Saturday passed a unanimous resolution welcoming the move. The resolution came following a November 2 notification of the Government inviting objections to the decision on Greater Bangalore, within November 30. The notification on the formation of Greater Bangalore has identified 37 villages in 12 gram panchayats under the jurisdiction of the Bangalore South Taluk Panchayat. In all, 111 villages in the outlying areas of Bangalore would be included in the Greater Bangalore corporation that would be formed later. After the chief executive of the panchayat, Nagaraj, moved the agenda at the meeting, members welcomed the idea of merger of the gram panchayats in Greater Bangalore. While some expressed anguish over the non-inclusion of certain villages, others suggested that the entire Bangalore Rural could be brought under the new corporation. Though they would be losing their membership, Chandrashekar, a member, said they would welcome the merger, as it would help in the all-round development of the villages.
