U.S. honour for Keralite teacher

KOCHI: In a rare honour, Elizabeth Chacko, Associate Professor of Geography at George Washington University, Washington DC, has been named the CASE Professor of the Year 2006 for the District of Columbia.

She is the sixth Indian, the second Indian woman and the first Keralite to win the CASE award, the most prestigious recognition for teaching in the U.S. Dr. Chacko was honoured at a function held recently at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, Washington DC. The Carnegie Foundation established Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 1981 and the CASE Professor of the Year program is the only award offered for teaching in the U.S.

It recognises undergraduate teachers for extraordinary dedication and involvement with undergraduate students; scholarly approach to teaching and learning; contribution to undergraduate education in the institution and in the community as part of the profession.
