KOCHI: An HIV/AIDS sensitisation workshop for lawyers and law students turned out to be unusually productive. Those who participated decided to form a panel of advocates to defend the rights of HIV-positive people. Enlisting of advocates for the same started on Sunday during the workshop organised by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA) and People's Council for Social Justice (PCSJ). The workshop was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). High Court Judge Justice Kurien Joseph inaugurated the workshop and PCSJ president K. John Mathew presided. Kerala High Court Advocates' Association president G. Sreekumar and Women Lawyers' Federation president Prabha R. Menon spoke on the occasion. The workshop dealt with various issues related to HIV/AIDS like the prevalence of the disease in the State and the laws vis-à-vis HIV/AIDS. Those present showed a remarkable improvement in awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, said one of the organisers.
