`Technology being dumped on farmers'

Technology was being dumped on farmers instead of involving them in choosing the technology for their use and this was leading to controversies, said E. Haribabu, Dean School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH). He was delivering the keynote address at a two-day national seminar on `Governance, Technology and Development' organised by the Academic Staff College of UoH.

Osmania University

K. C. Reddy, Chairman, APSCHE inaugurated the Computer Laboratory of PGDIT Course under 21st Century Gurukulam at the University College Engineering (UCE), Osmania University. The new computer lab with 55 terminals will be the hub for practical training and e-learning. OU is one of the six universities in the State where the PG Residential Academies (21st century Gurukulams) have been established to train rural talented youth under the auspices of Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning. Fifty students are enrolled in PGDIT Programme this year.

MANU University

Centre for Women Studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University screened a documentary film `Qamar- Child labour in Bangle Industry' on the university premises. The documentary was filmed on Qamar, an eleven-year-old girl working in bangle manufacturing industry at Old City. The film conveys the plight of child workers involved in bangle manufacturing. The film was directed by Preeya Nair in association with Maya Films.

SPMV Vidyalayam

Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) Centre for Indira Gandhi Studies conducted a training programme for women SHG members, "Looking at Indira Gandhi", last week in connection with her birth anniversary. Varsity's rector T.V. Subba Rao spoke.
