SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam inaugurated the newly constructed veterinary dispensary at a cost of Rs. 19.70 lakh at Aataiyampatti here recently.
Insurance scheme
Addressing the function, he said that the State Government had planned to cover about 1 lakh cows under the livestock insurance scheme, which was launched recently. The scheme would be implemented in Salem, Namakkal, Coimbatore, Erode and Velur districts, he said. The State Government was keen on providing basic amenities, including streetlights, protected drinking water and roads, to all the villages. Animal Husbandry Minister Geetha Jeevan said that efforts were being taken to encourage more farmers to take up animal husbandry activities in the State in the coming years. Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy also spoke. Collector N. Mathivanan, while presiding over the function, said that the State Government allotted Rs. 6.85 lakh to conduct 140 veterinary camps in the district. The Ministers distributed welfare assistance to the beneficiaries under various schemes during the function. Senior revenue officials were present.
