dated November 27, 1956: Hungary agrees to talks

The Hungarian Government has agreed to negotiate on the Budapest Workers' Council's demands, which they have maintained unwaveringly all through the general strike - including the return of Mr. Imre Nagy as Prime Minister, free elections, and withdrawal of Russian troops. Budapest Radio announced that the Janos Kadar Government had accepted these demands "as a basis for negotiations." But there was still no news of the whereabouts of Mr. Nagy, missing since he left the Yugoslav Embassy with 40 supporters, and said by Yugoslav officials to have been abducted by the Russians.
