Bangalore: Bangalore definitely has a lot of dog lovers going by the turnout at the 14th All Breed Championship Dog Show on Palace Grounds on Sunday.

Organisers say that more than 500 dogs from 40 different breeds took part in the show, which is being organised for the past eight years. But an equal, if not more, people trooped in throughout the day, family in tow, to take a peek at these canine beauties.

Foreign breeds included Great Dane, German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel among others while there were just two Indian breeds.

Stalls selling dog food and chains had also been set up, though not many seemed interested.

Judging the Champion Dog was a long process, with the judges first having to decide the best dog and a reserve dog in each breed. To accommodate the large number of dogs that had registered for the event, the organisers had four rings. Dogs from each breed strutted in front of the judges in an attempt to pass through the first stage of elimination.

Then the best in each group were decided. (There are many groups, some of which include working dogs, pastoral, toys and gun dogs, says an organiser Lakshmi).

The Pomeranian was declared the Champion dog and American Cocker Spaniel the runners-up.

But how do owners of champion dogs take care of their pets? Harshita, the owner of a Neapolitan Mastiff Nancy, says, "I just give it chicken and rice once a day and that's all."

The event was organised by the Bangalore Kennel Club. Registration fee was Rs. 150 a dog.
