The new KBC host

Ziya Us Salam

PANAJI: Even as all the attention is focussed on the 37th International Film Festival of India, Bollywood's most popular star Shah Rukh Khan is making news. He is all set to replace Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the popular game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. The show will make its third appearance on television this January, when Khan steps in for Bachchan.

Star CEO Sameer Nair told The Hindu that the show's format will remain unchanged in the latest comeback. "We are working on the modalities and the lines will be open soon," Mr. Nair said. The show is co-produced by popular quizmaster Siddhartha Basu's SynergyCommunications. According to Mr. Nair, it will remain an hour-long show and would be aired four times a week, Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m on Star Plus.

Mr. Bachchan was still supposed to host 24 more episodes of the gameshow when he fell ill late last year. However, due to a variety of reasons, ranging from health to pending film commitments, he was not willing to go on with the series. "So we decided to move on," Mr. Nair said.

For Khan, it is a comeback after almost a 20-year absence from the small screen.
