INSPECTION: The Peramabalur MLA, M. Rajkumar, inaugurating the telephone booth even as the Collector, Anil Meshram (right), looks on.
A house, a television set, loan for self-employment and a deposit-free telephone connection for starting a booth. These are the slew of facilities that a physically challenged person, Shanthi of Perambalur, has been sanctioned, one after another. She is one of the beneficiaries in the district who has been allotted a house at Elambalur `samathuvapuram' under the quota for physically challenged persons. When the Union Minister for Environment and Forests, A. Raja, visited her house to hand over a free television set on September 16, she pleaded for loan for self-employment. She was soon sanctioned loan for starting a telephone booth in the area through a cooperative bank. Not stopping at that, the Minister also directed the BSNL to sanction her a deposit-free phone connection. Much to her joy, the Collector, Anil Meshram, came to the `samathuvapuram' last week to see the commissioning of the telephone line at her house.
