TIMELY HELP: Venkatesh and his wife with their child.
HASSAN: When their baby girl was born with mental impairment, Venkatesh, resident of Singapura village in Alur taluk, and his wife did not lose heart. They consulted several doctors for her treatment and spent all their resources, but the problem persisted. Their financial position also became weak. They made several representations to their elected representatives and officials for help, but in vain. They almost lost hope. When Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy visited Hassan district on November 3, Venkatesh and his wife took their child and appealed to the Chief Minister to help them get treatment from experts so that the child (now one-and-a half-year-old) could lead a normal life. They told the Chief Minister that their financial resources had exhausted. Mr. Kumaraswamy assured them of help. The couple could not believe their eyes when the Tahsildar of Alur went to their village recently and handed over a cheque for Rs. 20,000 sent from the Chief Minister's Office. There was also an assurance for more help from Mr. Kumaraswamy's office. Moved by the action of Chief Minister, the poor couple is all praise for Mr. Kumaraswamy. "This humanitarian gesture of the Chief Minister has given us the strength to take our child to experts for treatment. We are grateful to Chief Minister," they added.
