Special Correspondent
KURNOOL: P. Sivasankar Reddy, former trade union leader from the banking sector, who is contesting from Rayalaseema (West) for the Legislative Council poll, said he was touched by some of the graduates enrolled as voters mentioning their profession as "coolie". He said something was wrong with the society as a graduate was forced to work as an agriculture labourer or manual labour. The agriculture sector itself was in doldrums and was unable to support the farmers. Mr. Reddy said there was a lot of change in the attitude of bank managements because of the campaign started by employees unions against the industrialist borrowers who defaulted on repayment of loans. There were instances where sympathetic managers gave some leverage to poor farmers who came in tattered clothes to the banks to repay loans. Also, bank employees unions were for issuing more educational loans, as the amounts would produce "useful citizens" irrespective of late repayment of loans. Mr. Sankar Reddy who held high positions in the union activities at national level said five bank employees unions supported his candidature.
