HUBLI: A musical tribute was paid to "Sangeet Ratna" Abdul Kareem Khan here on Saturday in the form of a whole night music festival, organised by Mahroom Abdhul Karim Khan Sangeet Seva Samiti. Artistes chose the medium of music to pay tribute to the legend, who was instrumental in popularising Hindustani music in the North Karnataka region. The festival was held to mark the 69th "Smruthi Dinacharane" of "Khan Saheb". The music festival began with a vocal rendition by Krishnendra Wadikar on Saturday evening and concluded with the early morning programme on Sunday by vocalist Sreepathi Padigar, a disciple of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Mr. Padigar is the president of the samiti. Apart from local artistes such as Ustad Rafique Khan and Jayateerth Mevundi, artistes from Maharashtra had come to pay homage to "Khan Saheb". Vocalists Manjusha Kulkarni Patil and Anand Bhate from Pune, and flautist Rupak Kulkarni from Mumbai, enthralled the music lovers. They were supported by Pt. Ragunath Nakod, Ravikirna Nakod, Keshav Joshi, Anant Hegde (tabla), Narendra Nayak and Vaman Vaghukar (harmonium). People from the twin cities and from neighbouring districts of Gadag, Haveri, Uttar Kannada and Belgaum had come to participate in the music festival. The festival was held at the Sawai Gandharva Hall.
