Kapil calls for contribution from all

Special Correspondent

Mumbai: Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev declared that the Indian cricketers, who are all professionals, should not take too long to adjust to pace, bounce and seam in the remaining part of the South African tour.

He asserted there couldn't be a time frame to get accustomed to the prevailing conditions there. "If they are capable of it, they will do it."

Speaking during the Birla Sun Life invitational corporate golf tournament here on Sunday, Kapil said, "each and every member of the team has to pull his weight and work together. Cricket is a team sport and everybody has to share the common task."

Responding to the clamour for preparing sporting wickets in the domestic championship, Kapil said "I have been hearing this for 20 years. Every time we tour Australia and South Africa statements have been made to make pitches that afford bounce in the domestic tournaments. After the tour it's forgotten.''

When asked if there has been a tendency to judge and recognise cricketers by their performances in ODIs and not Test match cricket, the former India captain said "you have recognised them. In general the media should focus on what the cricketers do on the field, not their personal activities like modelling and what they earn.''
