BJP's commitment to statehood questioned

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: TRS leader and MP A Narendra alleged that the BJP was calling for introduction of private member bill on Telangana statehood in the Parliament only to gain mileage in the byelections.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he alleged that the BJP was not committed on formation of a separate Telangana.

"If the BJP was committed on Telangana, it would have raised its voice in the Parliament when the TRS members had stalled the proceedings demanding a separate State after the resignation of K. Chandrashekhar Rao," he pointed out.

The private member bill would be introduced only on Fridays and already one Friday of winter session of Parliament was completed, he said.

He demanded that the BJP disclose how it would introduce the bill in this session when other Fridays were already engaged with various other issues.

On the Telugu Desam Party's election plank of united Andhra Pradesh for all round development of Telangana, he said that the people of Telangana had gave their verdict against an integrated State in the 2004 elections.
